Anri was produced by Toshiki Kadomatsu, whose approach to J-funk borrowed heavily from American session musicians and LA studio culture without trying to imitate it. Timely!! captures a moment when Japan's bubble economy meant that musicians could afford full string sections, horn players flown in from New York, and unlimited studio time. The result was a sophistication that still sounds current.
