Khun Narin’s Electric Phin Band are a multi-generational ensemble from Phetchabun Province in rural Thailand, discovered when a phone-filmed video of them parading through a village — captioned ‘mindblowing psychedelia from Thailand’ — went viral in 2013. Their first studio album, produced by Tommy Brenneck (Charles Bradley, Amy Winehouse, Beyoncé), arrived in May 2026. The electric phin — a traditional three-stringed lute run through distortion and portable PA systems — creates something that critics have called surf rock, molam, garage psych, and ritual trance. All of these are partially right.
