Leon Ware — Inside Your Love
Inside Is Love · 1979
Label: Gordy · Genre: Soul / Quiet Storm / Soul · Country: USA · From: Los Angeles, CA, North America
Leon Ware wrote the entirety of Marvin Gaye's I Want You album before deciding he wanted to keep Musical Massage for himself. He brought the songs to Gaye as a gift, re-recorded them with his own voice, and released them a year later on Gordy. The result is one of the smoothest, most intimate albums in soul history — a record that moves at body temperature, unhurried and deliberate. It established the template for quiet storm R&B and influenced everyone from D'Angelo to Frank Ocean.
Did you know: Leon Ware was an in-demand songwriter long before Inside Your Love. He wrote and produced the majority of Marvin Gaye’s I Want You (1976) — giving Gaye some of his most sensual material — and contributed to albums by Michael Jackson and Quincy Jones. He rarely received the public credit he deserved. Ware died in 2017; his memorial was attended by much of the soul and R&B community.
