'Love Is the Message,' the title track of their 1973 album, grew from a B-side into one of the most important records in dance history: the song David Mancuso and Larry Levan built whole nights around at the Loft and the Paradise Garage. Six minutes of strings, horns and the Three Degrees' wordless vocals, it is the moment Philly soul tipped over into disco.
