Momoko Kikuchi — Mystical Composer
Adventure · 1986
Label: VAP · Genre: City Pop / Synth Pop · From: Tokyo, East Asia
Momoko Kikuchi was one of Japan's most beloved idols of the 1980s — actress, singer, and cultural phenomenon. Adventure, released in 1986, is her City Pop peak: synthpop production by Tetsuji Hayashi, a sparkle of electronic textures, and Kikuchi's bright vocal delivery. Mystical Composer opens the album with turntable imagery and a late-night groove that made it a cult favourite in both its original moment and its later rediscovery.
Did you know: Kikuchi later earned a doctorate in political science from Keio University and served on a government committee on social security — a trajectory almost without parallel in pop music. Her academic career is as distinguished as her entertainment one.
