Os Mutantes — A Minha Menina
Os Mutantes · 1968
Label: Polydor · Genre: Rare Groove / Tropicália · Country: Brazil · From: São Paulo, South America
Os Mutantes were teenagers in São Paulo playing in a genre that didn't have a name yet: a fusion of Brazilian folk, psychedelic rock, bossa nova, and pure absurdist chaos. Their debut was produced by Tropicália architect Gilberto Gil and featured homemade instruments including a vacuum cleaner. It was banned by Brazil's military government for being too strange.
Did you know: Rita Lee, the band's vocalist, built some of the instruments used on this album herself using household objects. Several tracks used unconventional homemade devices as percussion and texture. The vacuum cleaner appears on at least one recording.
