Phương Tâm was a pioneer of Vietnamese rock and roll, recording in Saigon between 1964 and 1966 with a ferocity and swagger that nobody expected. Her recordings absorbed American surf guitar, twist rhythms, and soul with complete confidence. The Sublime Frequencies reissue was compiled by her daughter after years of tracking down original tapes.
