Platinum 900 (a late-nineties Tokyo project, not to be confused with the later band of the same name) recorded Free (At Last) in 1999 — a lush, late-night set of Japanese city pop and funk that has become a serious diggers' record, championed in city-pop circles and reissued for a new generation. 'Tsukiakari no Shitade' (月灯りの下で — 'Under the Moonlight') is exactly what the title promises: a smooth, moonlit groove of bossa-tinged funk, sophisticated and unhurried. It's the sound of a Tokyo midnight, and one of the album's most cherished cuts.
