Ramsey Lewis was already a successful pianist when Maurice White, his former drummer, brought Earth, Wind and Fire into the studio with him. The title track of Sun Goddess is essentially an EWF performance with Lewis at the keys, and it redefined him for the jazz-funk era. The afterthought jam became the headline.
