Seu Jorge — Tive Razão
Cru · 2005
Label: Wrasse Records · Genre: Soul / Samba / Acoustic Soul · Country: Brazil · From: Rio de Janeiro, South America
Seu Jorge recorded Cru — the word means raw — entirely alone, with just his acoustic guitar and his voice, in a single room in Rio. No overdubs, no band, no production layer. He had just finished filming The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou for Wes Anderson, in which he played David Bowie songs in Portuguese throughout the film. Cru is the antithesis of that film's artifice: utterly stripped and direct. It is one of the most intimate records in Brazilian music.
Did you know: Tive Razão was written by Seu Jorge for his debut album Está Bem. He simultaneously became known internationally through Wes Anderson’s The Life Aquatic (2004), in which he played a shipwrecked sailor performing David Bowie covers in Portuguese on acoustic guitar. Bowie later said Jorge’s versions gave him a completely different understanding of his own songs.
