Takako Mamiya — Midnight Joke
Love Trip · 1982
Label: Kitty Records · Genre: City Pop / Jazz Fusion · From: Tokyo, East Asia
Love Trip is Takako Mamiya's only album and one of City Pop's most perfect statements. Released in 1982 on Kitty Records, produced by jazz saxophonist Genji Sawai, the ten tracks move through midnight introspection and moonlit longing with consistent elegance. Mamiya recorded it, got married, and retired from music — Love Trip was her complete statement. She was later confirmed to be alive and well, having simply chosen to step away.
Did you know: Takako Mamiya has given no interviews and made no public appearances since retiring after Love Trip's release in 1982. For years her whereabouts were unknown and fans speculated about her fate. A Korean YouTuber eventually confirmed she was alive and well through contact with a former Kitty Records executive.
