Toshiki Kadomatsu was City Pop's most accomplished producer as well as its most funky solo artist. After 5 Clash, released in 1984, is his most fully realised album — nine tracks of sophisticated funk and AOR built around his own guitar work, with session horns and polished arrangements. Step Into The Light is its most ebullient moment: English lyrics, a rapper's cadence, and a groove built entirely for movement. Kadomatsu produced records for Anri, Yurie Kokubu, and many others while simultaneously pursuing his own solo career.
