Zhané — Vibe
Vibe · 1994
Label: Motown · Genre: R&B / New Jack Swing · Country: USA · From: Philadelphia, North America
Nikki Jean and Renée Neufville formed Zhané in Philadelphia and named themselves after a Swahili word for beautiful. 'Vibe' samples George Benson's 'Love x Love' guitar riff and rides it somewhere between new jack swing and quiet storm. Produced by Kay Gee of Naughty by Nature — an unlikely pairing that made perfect sense.
Did you know: Zhané is pronounced 'Jah-Nay' — their debut album was literally titled 'Pronounced Jah-Nay'. The name comes from a Swahili word meaning beautiful, chosen to reflect their aesthetic philosophy.
